At Ribe Clinic we treat fungal nail infections with the Nd:YAG laser rather than using traditional topical nail products or oral medication to treat onychomycosis, as laser treatment can achieve results from the first session and without side effects.
The micropulses from this Nd:YAG laser pass through the nail and are absorbed by the fungus without damaging the nail itself or the surrounding healthy tissue.

What is onychomycosis (fungal nail infection)?
Onychomycosis is a chronic condition that is relatively common and involves a fungal infection of the nails.
According to experts, 10–15% of the population is affected by toenail fungus, and it is precisely with the arrival of spring that specialist centres see a peak in demand for advice and treatment.
Causes of onychomycosis (fungal nail infection)
There are several causes of toenail fungus, including diabetes, immunosuppression, exercise and/or excessive sweating of the feet, and/or very frequent permanent or semi-permanent nail treatments.
It may be a cosmetic issue or a more serious problem causing pain or abnormal nail growth, potentially affecting quality of life.
Fungal nail infection before and after

Number of sessions
4–6 sessions lasting 5 minutes (1 session every 2–4 weeks), during which laser light is applied to the infected area. As a preventive measure, the remaining toenails are also treated, producing a sensation of warmth in the area.
When will I see the results?
From the first session of laser treatment for a fungal nail infection, you will start to see results, with the nail becoming pinker and smoother. This laser treatment has no side effects.

Aftercare
No special aftercare is required following laser treatment. However, good nail-care habits are recommended, such as keeping the nails as dry as possible after showering, bathing or exercise and avoiding pedicures with nail polish.
