When should I start treatment for surgical scars?
We recommend not waiting too long after surgery and coming to our clinic as soon as the stitches are removed, so treatment can begin immediately.

We aim for the best possible aesthetic result, choosing the most appropriate treatment according to the condition of the surgical scar.
- For atrophic and hypertrophic surgical scars, the best option is to start with Fraxel re-store or Frax fractional laser treatment, with one session every 30 days and approximately 3–5 sessions in total.
- For keloid surgical scars, we recommend combining intralesional corticosteroid injections with Fraxel re-store or Frax fractional laser treatment, with one session every 30 days and 3–5 sessions in total. In some cases, IPL may also be used, depending on medical assessment.
Timing and number of sessions
The sooner a post-surgical scar is treated, the better the outcome. Treatment should be carried out once the skin is intact and the wound is fully closed, which is when the stitches are removed or, if the area is still very sensitive, around one month after surgery.
Usually, 3 to 5 sessions (1 per month) are needed to remove or reduce surgical scars.
There is improvement from the first session, but results continue to improve for 3 to 5 months after treatment, depending on how old the scar is, its extent and how early treatment was started.
The final aesthetic result is assessed 3–5 months after treatment has finished.

Aftercare
Simply apply a healing cream to the treated area for a few days, together with sun protection (SPF 50+).
Normal daily activities can be resumed.
Depending on the case, we recommend applying creams or patches to enhance the effect of surgical scar treatment.
