When should I start treatment for hypertrophic or atrophic scars?
After an accident, surgery or burn, hypertrophic scars (raised scars that remain within the boundaries of the original scar) and/or atrophic scars (sunken scars) may form.
Treatment should begin as soon as possible, once the stitches have been removed and the scar is fully closed. If the skin is still very sensitive when the stitches are removed, wait approximately one month.
–
Is treatment the same if the atrophic scar is on the face or body?
The treatment is usually the same, laser therapy, although the treatment parameters and number of sessions may vary.

Treatment for hypertrophic and atrophic scars in Barcelona, Ribe Clinic
We aim for the best possible aesthetic result. Depending on the condition of the atrophic or hypertrophic scar, we use one therapy or another. For this type of scar, a highly effective treatment is fractional Fraxel re-store or Frax laser, with one session every 30 days, with approximately 3–5 sessions in total.
Timing and number of sessions
The earlier an atrophic or hypertrophic scar is treated, the better the result. The skin must be intact and the wound fully closed.
Usually 3 to 5 treatment sessions are needed to remove or reduce their appearance, with one session per month. Results will be noticeable from the first session.
The final aesthetic result is assessed 3–5 months after completing treatment for hypertrophic or atrophic scars, as their appearance continues to improve over time.

Aftercare
Simply apply a healing cream to the treated area for a few days, together with sun protection (SPF 50+).
Normal daily activities can be resumed.
Depending on the case, we may recommend creams or patches to enhance the effect of the treatment.
